The recce ride went off quite well, and the main ride is ON. Sunday, 21st June, Summer Solstice / Midsummer day (hence the name).

An important note, which is critical enough to mention first.

This ride is NOT your average announce ride. The route is hard, and though the roads are excellent, there are innumerable changes of direction, and plenty of counter-intuitive turns that you will easily miss if you do not know the route. I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH, ride rules MUST be followed. We MUST ride as a group. DO NOT OVERTAKE POINT, DO NOT FALL BEHIND SWEEP. No exceptions. Non. Nada. Nyet.

That said, the scenery is beautiful, and quite a treat for the eyes. The route is peppered with casual village scenes and lush vegetation. You’d enjoy the ride much better in “smell-the-roses” riding style, rather than a “twist-that-throttle” style.

The route is basically the following.

  1. NGEF gate, 6.00 AM
  2. NH207 Turnoff before Hoskote (1st re-group)
  3. Bagalur Road Turn-off (2nd Re-group)
  4. Bagalur town (Breakfast Point)
  5. Devanhalli Road Turnoff (3rd Re-group) - Left Turn required.
  6. Devanhalli outskirts (4th Re-group)
  7. Doddaballapur Road
  8. Indrasenahalli turnoff (5th regroup)
  9. Turnoff towards Rajankunte (6th Group).
  10. Rajankunte turnoff towards Hessarghatta (7th Regroup)
  11. Hessarghatta lake or whatever that puddle is called. Long break, and give newbie gyaan.
  12. Jalahalli road turnoff
  13. Airforce base
  14. BEL circle
  15. Hebbal Flyover
I expect we would reach Hebbal Flyover by approximately by 2PM.

The route may seem a little convoluted and contrived, but we aren’t riding to reach a specific destination, but rather to enjoy the ride. Yes, I know there are a lot of re-groups, but trust me, they are required. That’s the reason we’re starting a little early. The total distance is about 220km.

Roads are great for the most part. Full Gear required. I mean, full face helmets, denim/cordura/leather jackets, gloves, denim/cordura/leather pants, boots/heavy shoes. And this applies to rider and pillion. Please stick to this, I would hate to send someone back for not meeting these requirements. As always, there’s a chance of rain too.

All the usual rules apply.

  1. Please, please ride as a group. Keep a good braking distance ahead AND behind you.
  2. Follow traffic rules. No speeding, and don’t overtake without appropriate signals.
  3. Respect other people on the road, pedestrians, car drivers, buses. They own the road as much as you do.
  4. No Drinking and Driving. Sidey comments aren’t welcome.
  5. We ride for fun, NOT to prove a point.

Bring it on, folks. Let’s make this a ride to remember.
